The Thai Lottery

The official national lottery in Thailand is drawn twice a month. It is one of the only forms of legalised gambling in the country. The lottery is run by The Government Lottery Office and is open to all citizens and legal residents. The winners of the lottery are determined by the number of tickets sold.

The winning ticket must be presented to the lottery agent. The winner must fill out a claim form and provide all necessary documentation. Generally, ลับเฉพาะสายทหาร winning ticket must be accompanied by a Thai identification card or passport. The government also requires lottery winners to pay a small amount of tax. On government lotteries, the tax rate is 0.5% while for charitable lotteries, the tax rate is 1%. The lottery generates about 4 million Baht for charity each year.

The tickets have six digit numbers and are printed on a special yellow paper. They are marked with the two-tone Wayupak watermark and a silk thread. The silk thread can be seen with the naked eye and under ultra-violet light. They are also coated with special chemicals that protect them from stains. If you spill bleach or any other chemical on the paper, it will stain the ticket.

The Government Lottery Office (GLO) manages the national lottery in Thailand. The GLO prints 70 million lottery tickets. Some of these tickets are allocated to disabled organizations, which distribute them to local retailers. The number of disabled retailers is estimated to be in the thousands. This practice is considered illegal, and authorities are cracking down on these businesses.

A lottery ticket is only legal if it is sold by a licensed vendor. The GLO website has a list of registered vendors. It is also possible to buy tickets online. Usually, the price for a single ticket is 80 baht.
